Ashkelon
Ashkelon is a city on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, 56 kilometers south of Tel Aviv.
Modern Ashkelon was founded in 1951.
In the city, located between the sea and the desert, a very pleasant climate. Ashkelon is one of the greenest cities in the country.

Ashkelon stands in the place of the biblical settlement, in honor of which it received its name. 4000 years ago there was a city surrounded by walls. On the ruins of these walls, later the Crusaders built their fortress.
Until 1150 BC here lived the Canaanites, then the Philistines. In 604 BC here the Babylonians invaded. In 525 BC the city was rebuilt by the Phoenicians. From 104 AD. Ashkelon was autonomy under the rule of Byzantines. In 614 he was conquered by the Persians, in 640 by the Arabs.
In 1153 the city was taken by the crusaders, in 1187 Salah ad-Din conquered it, in 1191, retreating, he ordered it to be destroyed. In 1192, Richard I of England reconquered and rebuilt the city. In 1260 Ashkelon captured the Mongols, then, in their footsteps, the Mamluks, who in ten years completely destroyed it.
In 1799 a short time the city was under the rule of Napoleon, all the rest of the time, before the First World War - under the rule of the Ottoman Empire. In December 1917, he was taken by the British under the command of General Allenby.
